The Donkey (A Poem) PDF

In Bethlehem’s humble stable, where the Savior’s birth was nigh,
There stood a gentle donkey, with a heart both pure and high.
Amidst the hay and manger, where the Holy Child did lay,
The donkey watched with wonder, as the stars shone bright as day.

Through the open doorway, shepherds came with haste,
To greet the newborn King, whose presence filled the space.
Wise men from afar, guided by a radiant star,
Bowed their heads in reverence, from realms both near and far.

Yet, amidst the throng of angels and the wise,
The donkey stood unnoticed, with humble, gentle eyes.
It carried Mary safely, on her journey to Bethlehem’s town,
And watched as Joseph marveled at the babe, with love profound.

But in the donkey’s heart, a secret flame did burn,
A longing to be part of this wondrous tale, to learn.
It yearned to share the joy, the hope, the boundless grace,
That filled the stable’s walls, in that most sacred place.

So, as the night wore on, and all the world was still,
The donkey whispered softly, its heart filled with goodwill.
"Oh, gentle Child of Bethlehem, I may be humble and small,
But I pray that in your story, I may find a place for all."

And lo, as if in answer, a gentle voice replied,
"Dear donkey, in my heart, you hold a place of pride.
For you have borne my mother, and carried me with care,
And in your humble service, my love you fully share."

Overjoyed, the donkey brayed with joy and might,
Its braying filled the stable, like a beacon in the night.
For in that moment, it realized its worth and grace,
And knew that in God’s kingdom, it held an honored place.

From that day forward, the donkey stood tall and proud,
Its braying a reminder of the love that had been vowed.
It carried children to the manger, where they could see,
The wonder of the Christ Child, and his love for all to be.

And so, as Christmas nears, in the year of twenty-four,
Let us remember the donkey, and the tale it has in store.
For in its humble service, and its unwavering faith,
We find a lesson for us all, a truth that time cannot erase.

That even in the smallest of creatures, God’s love can reside,
And that in serving others, we find our true pride.
So let us embrace the spirit of the donkey, this Christmastide,
And share our love and kindness, with all who come beside.

For in the donkey’s story, we find hope and cheer,
A reminder that God’s love knows no bounds, far or near.
And as we celebrate the birth of Christ, our Savior and our King,
Let us remember the donkey, and the joy it brings.
